About the position

GEICO is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to lead the transformation of its insurance business by developing high-performance platforms and applications. This role focuses on architecting and designing the enterprise Associate Portal, enhancing the associate experience through innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders to drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across multiple areas of the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems.
  • Develop and execute a technical software development strategy for various domains.
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages like Python, C#, and SQL, along with container orchestration services such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Mentor and coach engineering and product community members to strengthen technical expertise.
  • Influence and educate leadership at all levels on engineering best practices.
  • Analyze costs and forecast, incorporating them into business plans.
  • Determine and support resource requirements and evaluate operational processes.

Requirements

  • Fluency in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C# with a focus on object-oriented design.
  • Experience in building micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
  • Proven experience in architecture and design of new and existing systems, including design patterns and scaling.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  • Fluency in DevOps concepts and cloud architecture, particularly Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and operational portals like Azure Portal.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and products, including Active Directory and OAuth.
  • In-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms in computer science.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or other cloud services.
  • Track record of publications in credible conferences and journals.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
