About the position

The Chief Engineer for Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) and Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) will serve as the technical expert in engineering and project management policy. This role involves ensuring that project management and technical activities are conducted with sound engineering practices and proper controls. The Chief Engineer will provide technical counsel to leadership, collaborate with Command Chief Engineers, lead technical investigations, and drive digital transformation initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the NSWC/NUWC technical expert in engineering and project management policy.
  • Ensure project management and technical activities are conducted with sound engineering practices and proper controls.
  • Provide technical counsel to the NSWC/NUWC Commander and Executive Director regarding project execution.
  • Collaborate with Command Chief Engineers to address common challenges and share best practices.
  • Lead technical investigations and inquiries on behalf of the NSWC/NUWC Commander and Executive Director.
  • Lead integration and coordination activities with Program Executive Offices (PEOs) and NAVSEA Directorates.
  • Drive the digital transformation of engineering activities and operational data initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering experience ensuring project management and technical activities are conducted with sound engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical capabilities across NSWC/NUWC Warfare Center Divisions.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical communications effectively, including sensitive information.
  • Experience assessing enterprise and system integration issues and developing solutions.
  • Experience leading Digital Engineering transformation within a large organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in engineering or related field.
  • Professional registration or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
