About the position

The Distinguished Engineer of Security Engineering at GEICO is responsible for providing strategic and technical direction for user, development, and production security. This role involves leading security detection and prevention strategies, transitioning from a traditional IT Security model to a tech-focused organization, and fostering a proactive security culture. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security development functions and an offensive security mindset, working collaboratively with various teams to enhance security measures and optimize processes.

Responsibilities

  • Influence and educate leadership on security-minded approaches to challenges.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineering leaders to solve complex problems with minimal business impact.
  • Define strategic roadmaps for securing infrastructure without unnecessary overhead.
  • Accountable for the quality, usability, and functionality of security solutions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance security measures and streamline processes.
  • Develop and implement policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Drive automation initiatives and conduct advanced research to enhance security capabilities.
  • Provide demonstrations and communicate the value of security measures to the business.
  • Work with business partners to prioritize and validate the urgency of threat mitigation.

Requirements

  • Broad experience in security domains including endpoint, identity, network, and collaboration security.
  • Demonstrated fluency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or Go.
  • Extensive experience in offensive and defensive security roles with a strong hacker mindset.
  • Experience communicating and presenting to senior staff and influencing stakeholders.
  • Experience in a multi-platform environment (Linux, Mac, Windows).
  • Experience with multiple IaaS platforms from top-tier providers.
  • Ability to solve security control requirements with engineering approaches.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-standard security tools, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Experience working with auditors and demonstrating security controls.

  • History of publications or presentations in related topics.
  • Third-party certifications in penetration testing or ethical hacking.
