About the position

The Distribution Assistant Manager will assist the Distribution Manager in managing sales, customer service, inventory, production, and delivery operations of the distribution facility.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises 10 - 100 employees.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff or assists management with this process.
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of team members within the facility.
  • Addresses employee concerns, conflicts, and personnel actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Assists with developing monthly, quarterly, and annual plans with the Distribution Facility manager to meet company goals for operations and profitability.
  • Assists Distribution Facility Manager in analyzing end-of-day, week, and monthly reports, including daily KPI reports and monthly profit-and-loss statements, in order to monitor sales, gross profit, and inventory activity.
  • Identifies trends and takes proactive or remedial action to manage business situations.
  • Manages employees, work schedule planning, assets, and inventory to meet coverage needs and meet labor goals.
  • Makes recommendations to the Distribution Facility Manager to improve productivity, reduce losses, maximize equipment performance, and improve quality of service for the distribution facility.
  • Assists the Distribution Facility Manager in monitoring inventory levels, including inventory valuation and shrink levels.
  • Assists Distribution Facility Manager in overseeing yard operations through regular inspections of the yard and warehouses to ensure completion of daily procedures, project completion, good housekeeping, and inventory control.
  • May be directly responsible for the overall operation of certain areas of the facility as delegated by the Distribution Facility Manager.
  • Ensures that proper security measures are in place and carried out by subordinate staff, including regular inspection of the fence line in the yard.
  • Opens and closes the Distribution facility as required.
  • Assists the Distribution Facility Manager in maintaining and ensuring compliance with control and audit systems that result in a safe, productive, and profitable operation.
  • Compiles and processes accurate and timely records and reports.
  • Actively works to assure the safety and well-being of employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Complies with all company safety standards, including that the store fleet (delivery vehicles, forklifts) is appropriately managed.
  • Ensures that daily inspection reports are completed on all fleet assets.
  • Operates a forklift.
  • Attends, and participates in all meetings and training sessions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, MAC21, and other related software.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure and deadlines; ability to multitask.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate staff.
  • Must successfully pass all company training regarding equipment usage, including obtaining the forklift certification.
  • Ability to respond to alarm calls as necessary.
  • Must have a current driver's license and auto liability insurance.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, construction science, or equivalent preferred.
  • Retail lumber supply experience is preferred.
  • At least five years of distribution experience is preferred.
