About the position

The Distribution Center Inventory Control Manager plays a crucial role in achieving maximum market penetration and driving market growth, which ultimately leads to increased sales and profitability. This position is responsible for creating a superior customer experience through the accurate management of all aspects of the inventory control process. The manager will oversee the inventory control operations, ensuring that all merchandise is in saleable condition to meet customer order requirements. This role requires a strong focus on maintaining high service levels and driving the accuracy of inventory management. The position also involves developing a yearly inventory plan in coordination with Distribution Center (DC) Management and centralized Purchasing. The manager will ensure that factory returns are generated after each classification round and that all factory returns are pulled and shipped in a timely manner. Additionally, the manager will safeguard DC investments by ensuring that distressed merchandise is expensed properly and will lead the execution of quality rounds of inventory each year. A significant part of this role includes coaching and communicating with employees and managers to ensure accountability for maintaining inventory availability and accuracy. The manager will also be responsible for creating a culture of safety within the workplace, ensuring that all required training is completed and that employees understand their responsibilities regarding safety. This position demands high standards of performance and requires the manager to administer company policies and procedures consistently and fairly.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a yearly inventory plan and coordinates with DC Management and centralized Purchasing to ensure all factory returns are generated after close of each classification round
  • Ensures all merchandise is in saleable condition to meet customer order requirements
  • Drives the accuracy of inventory and maintains a high service level
  • Communicates, coaches, and ensures all employees and managers are accountable for maintaining inventory availability and accuracy
  • Confirms that factory returns are pulled and shipped in a timely manner
  • Safeguards DC investments by making sure that distressed merchandise is expensed properly
  • Leads the execution and efficient completion of quality rounds of inventory each year
  • Ensures every employee maintains a clean and orderly work environment
  • Monitors and applies for all rebates
  • Partners with HR in the areas of hiring, development, coaching and promotional opportunities
  • Demands high standards of performance, ensuring appropriate standards are met regarding employee coaching, discipline documentation, and terminations
  • Creates a culture of safety by ensuring required training is completed and employees understand their responsibility for behaving in a safe manner
  • Enforces safety rules and investigates every accident for the root cause
  • Administers company policies and procedures regarding employee performance, attendance, safety, training and other matters consistently and fairly

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • A 4-year business related degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 4 plus years' experience working in a distribution environment in a related role
  • Strong knowledge of NAPA systems and processes
  • Knowledge of NAPA product lines and numbering system
  • Knowledge of the NAPA classification system
  • Knowledge of the JDE & Legacy Systems
  • Proficient in data entry and reporting functions of AS 400 system
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must be a confident and thoughtful leader and demonstrate an ability to make good business decisions
  • Possess a willingness to learn new principles in management and leadership
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to get information and ideas across to others
  • Organized, with solid multi-tasking skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Possess strong attention to detail
