About the position

The Distribution Drafter position at Sargent & Lundy involves working in a project team environment to lead engineers and designers in the preparation and review of construction sketches and work packages for electric utility distribution facilities. The role requires knowledge of engineering and design practices, as well as the ability to conduct fieldwork and client communication. The position supports various aspects of distribution design, including overhead and underground facilities, pole loading analyses, and cost estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review construction sketches and work packages for overhead and underground distribution facilities (4 KV through 38 KV).
  • Conduct pole loading analyses and voltage drop calculations.
  • Perform cable pulling and prepare bills of material and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate joint use and develop traffic control plans or permit drawings.
  • Support preliminary project scoping and perform fieldwork when necessary.
  • Plan modifications to the distribution system and oversee complex tasks.
  • Provide construction support and conduct client communication as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a design-related field or a 4-year non-engineering degree.
  • Two or more years of experience with electric utility distribution or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of physical distribution design methods and applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in distribution software programs including AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with design codes such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead a project team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction.
  • Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software.
  • Familiarity with GIS software.
