About the position

The Distribution Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and managing electrical distribution systems that deliver electricity to various sectors, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient power distribution. This role involves compliance with industry standards, performing technical analyses, and managing infrastructure projects from conception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and optimize electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines, substations, transformers, and other components.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform load flow analysis, fault analysis, and voltage drop calculations to assess the capacity and performance of the distribution network.
  • Identify and mitigate potential issues in the distribution system.
  • Maintain accurate records of distribution equipment and perform condition assessments.
  • Specify and select distribution equipment, such as transformers and circuit breakers, considering voltage levels and load requirements.
  • Ensure that distribution system designs meet safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities for approvals and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the reliability of the distribution system and improve power quality.
  • Implement strategies for system resilience.
  • Evaluate requests for new electrical connections and design necessary infrastructure.
  • Manage distribution infrastructure projects from conception to completion.
  • Coordinate with construction crews, contractors, and vendors to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as power outages, by conducting rapid assessments and developing solutions.
  • Analyze data from monitoring systems and smart grids to gain insights into distribution system performance.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is typically required.
  • A master's degree may be preferred for more specialized roles.
  • Professional engineering license (PE) or similar certifications may be required.
  • Proficiency in distribution system design software and CAD tools.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS may be beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution principles and grid operation.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety protocols in electrical distribution systems.
