About the position

The District 76/78 Customer Service/Front-End Operations Specialist for the Portland Division plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of merchandising plans across assigned stores. This position involves traveling to various locations to collaborate closely with Department Managers and staff, sharing insights and strategies to meet sales, gross profit, and labor targets. The specialist will evaluate store presentations, cleanliness, and adherence to company policies, providing constructive feedback to enhance overall performance. Additionally, the role includes developing and maintaining training programs to ensure that qualified associates are available to fill key positions within the departments. In this position, the specialist will participate in departmental and divisional sales meetings, oversee sales, labor, and gross profit reporting from assigned stores, and implement new merchandising programs and strategies. Monitoring competitor activities and assisting in the opening of new and remodeled stores are also key responsibilities. The specialist will provide valuable merchandising input back to Division Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Managers, ensuring that the stores are aligned with the overall business objectives. The role requires a strong focus on quantitative measures, including store-level performance metrics such as department sales, gross profit, and labor percentages. Success will be determined through regular store visits, evaluations of training programs, and assessments of store conditions. This position is essential for maintaining high standards of customer service and operational excellence within the front-end operations of the stores.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned stores to work with Department Managers and staff on merchandising plans.
  • Counsel Department Managers and Store Directors on product merchandising and customer service.
  • Evaluate overall department presentation, cleanliness, and compliance with company policies during store visits.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for associates in respective departments.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional sales meetings.
  • Oversee departmental sales, labor, and gross profit reporting from assigned stores.
  • Implement new merchandising programs and strategies, ensuring proper training for department staff.
  • Monitor competitor activities and provide insights to improve store performance.
  • Assist in the opening of new and remodeled stores.
  • Provide merchandising input back to Division Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in merchandising and retail sales is preferred.
  • Experience as a Department Manager or Store Director is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities with a marketing orientation.
  • Math skills to perform straightforward analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and lead others without direct supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training and developing staff in a retail environment.
  • Familiarity with retail merchandising strategies and customer service best practices.
