About the position

The District Chief of Staff for the City of Dallas is responsible for overseeing office operations, managing staff, coordinating legislative activities, and representing the elected official at various events. This role involves budget oversight, constituent case management, and interdepartmental coordination, ensuring efficient office productivity and compliance with city regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee office operations and supervise staff.
  • Coordinate legislative activities and manage complex constituent relations.
  • Supervise and manage day-to-day operations of support staff.
  • Oversee large District events, projects, or initiatives.
  • Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPI's) for support staff.
  • Review current processes and optimize office productivity.
  • Assist the HR Department with new hires, including interviews and onboarding.
  • Conduct and document performance reviews for support staff.
  • Serve as subject matter expert, handling high priority inquiries and developing action plans.
  • Manage and oversee office budget, potentially serving as primary card holder.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the elected official on political and policy matters.
  • Represent the office in high-level meetings and public events.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the office's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with the City's Personnel Rules and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with other government agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Draft speeches and talking points for the elected official.
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to the elected official and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain cross-department relationships.
  • Provide communication support, drafting emails, reports, and presentations.
  • Support Council Member with strategic planning and project management.
  • Assist residents with connecting to City of Dallas resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, Political Science, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years in government or political organizations, with 5 years in leadership.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
