About the position

The District Field Training Officer position is a full-time role within the Department of Adult Correction's Division of Community Supervision, aimed at providing training and guidance to new and veteran Probation and Parole Officers. The role involves extensive knowledge of structured sentencing, community resources, and case management techniques, ensuring effective supervision of offenders. The officer will function as a lead officer, reporting to the Judicial District Manager, and will be responsible for training staff on various operational procedures and software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and guidance to new Probation and Parole Officers.
  • Conduct training sessions on case management techniques and offender counseling.
  • Perform in-depth risk/needs assessments and develop case plans for offenders.
  • Train officers on effective offender contacts and warrantless searches.
  • Maintain proficiency with software applications for data entry and research.
  • Carry a caseload when necessary and exercise good judgment in training staff.
  • Plan daily work operations for new hires, setting priorities and deadlines.
  • Serve on the Electronic House Arrest Response Team (EHART) and be on call as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience as a North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Structured Sentencing and its application in Community Supervision.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and utilization in accordance with Community Supervision guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience with software applications including OPUS, CSAS, ICOTS, FMS, AOC, and MS Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with structured worksheets addressing crime patterns.
  • Utilization of incentives and delegated authority in case management.
  • Experience with individualized case planning.
  • Knowledge of Evidence-Based Practices (EBP).
