About the position

As a District General Manager at Petco, you will play a pivotal role in leading and guiding multiple stores within your district to achieve sales and profit goals. Your leadership will be essential in developing and implementing strategic plans, policies, and procedures aimed at maximizing profits across all locations. You will frequently exercise individual judgment in making decisions regarding merchandise placement, staffing, and problem resolution, ensuring that each store operates efficiently and effectively. Your responsibilities will include analyzing and monitoring sales and expense figures for each store, providing constructive feedback, and making recommendations for improvement to maximize store profitability. Regular visits to all district stores will be necessary to conduct inspections, ensuring compliance with Petco policies and procedures, and to implement new initiatives in a timely manner. You will also be responsible for recruiting, training, and developing Store Management to ensure that each store is adequately staffed and prepared for future needs. In addition to operational oversight, you will foster a culture of outstanding customer service by ensuring that all associates are properly trained and equipped to meet guest care standards. You will provide counsel to Store Managers on various issues, including personnel matters and crisis intervention, while promoting open communication within the team and the community. Your role will also involve setting individual and store goals, tracking progress, and conducting competitive analysis to stay ahead in the market. You will oversee the financial integrity of the stores by conducting audits of store paperwork, ensuring compliance with cash control procedures, and monitoring inventory levels. Your leadership will extend to coordinating new store openings and remodels, ensuring that all store operations run smoothly and efficiently. As a District General Manager, you will be responsible for performance evaluations and merit increase recommendations for Store Managers, ensuring that all employee reviews are conducted in a timely manner. This position requires a significant amount of travel between stores, sometimes covering several hundred miles per week, and may involve risks associated with assisting customers and store personnel. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to stores to achieve district sales and profit goals.
  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures to maximize profits.
  • Analyze and monitor sales and expense figures for each store, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  • Visit all district stores regularly to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with Petco policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and manage Store Management to ensure adequate staffing and succession planning.
  • Ensure all associates are trained to provide outstanding customer service and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Provide counsel to Store Managers on personnel issues, store events, and problem-solving.
  • Plan and set individual and store goals, tracking progress to ensure objectives are met.
  • Conduct regular visits to competitor locations and report observed changes to management.
  • Conduct regular audits of store paperwork and track trends to ensure cash control procedures are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with company-directed Shrink reduction initiatives and Asset Protection programs.
  • Coordinate new store openings and existing store remodels, facilitating prompt repairs of store equipment as required.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all store paperwork and correspondence with Corporate.
  • Monitor merchandise levels in all district stores and coordinate stock balance between stores.
  • Complete semi-annual performance evaluations and annual merit increase recommendations for Store Managers.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in retail management, preferably in the pet industry or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills to monitor sales and expense figures and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster open communication with store personnel and the community.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and develop staff effectively to ensure high levels of customer service.
  • Experience in conducting audits and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple stores and coordinate new openings and remodels.
