About the position

The District Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing road maintenance, construction projects, and related activities within the public works department. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, managing budgets, supervising personnel, and coordinating emergency responses. The manager will also evaluate programs for effectiveness and implement improvements as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manages road maintenance, signs and markings, electrical maintenance, vacant lots, and construction projects.
  • Inspects and monitors road projects for compliance with contract specifications and regulations.
  • Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel.
  • Assists in budget preparation and monitors expenditures.
  • Prepares reports on programs and completes special projects.
  • Evaluates programs, policies, and procedures for effectiveness and recommends modifications.
  • Enforces safety procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and employee safety.
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages road construction and maintenance activities.
  • Investigates citizen complaints and provides solutions to road condition issues.
  • Monitors and reports weather and road conditions, implementing plans for snow and ice removal.
  • Coordinates district operations for emergency and disaster response.
  • Provides technical assistance concerning traffic studies and road projects.
  • Conducts field surveys and drafts plans for maintenance projects.
  • Coordinates projects with utility companies and reviews plans for accuracy.
  • Prepares cost estimates, bid specifications, and recommends procurement of materials and services.
  • Attends meetings and provides information on public works operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Three years of civil engineering or inspections of road construction or maintenance experience.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a related field.
