About the position

The District Sales Operations Manager plays a crucial role in achieving sales objectives by managing assigned routes and serving as the primary contact between R.L. Schreiber and its Purveyors. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying efficiencies and maintaining high levels of customer service. The manager will oversee and develop routes, building strong relationships with Purveyors to optimize sales efficiency. This includes actively recruiting and screening potential Purveyors for open routes and new territories, ensuring that regional sales operational objectives are met through effective communication and feedback from Purveyors. In addition to route management, the District Sales Operations Manager is responsible for delivering R.L. Schreiber products and upselling to increase transaction sizes. The role involves managing a customer base with a minimum of 12 stops per day, providing hands-on training in persuasive selling techniques, handling customer objections, route planning, and acquiring new customers. Maintaining and expanding the customer base is essential, as is fostering customer loyalty and retention through excellent service and rapport-building with key customers. The manager will also handle service calls, resolve customer issues promptly, and create plans to reactivate lapsed customers. Utilizing RLS computer systems for order entry and customer data management is a key part of the role, along with reporting food safety issues to supervisors or quality assurance personnel. The position requires regular inventory management, competitive market analysis, and managing accounts receivables while protecting company assets. The District Sales Operations Manager will also support the Regional General Manager on special projects and assist in training Purveyors in various sales administrative functions, including inventory management and credit applications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and develop routes identifying opportunities to build relationships between Purveyor and R.L. Schreiber INC.
  • Actively identify, recruit, and screen Purveyor prospects for open routes and new territories.
  • Achieve regional sales operational objectives by contributing regional sales information and feedback from Purveyors.
  • Deliver R.L. Schreiber products and upsell to increase transaction size.
  • Efficiently manage customer base within established route standards with a minimum of 12 customer stops per day.
  • Provide hands-on training in persuasive selling, handling customer objections, route planning, and new customer acquisition.
  • Maintain and expand customer base, fostering customer loyalty and retention.
  • Complete service calls and resolve customer issues in a timely fashion.
  • Create plans to reactivate lapsed customers.
  • Use RLS computer and order entry equipment to input transactions and manage customer data.
  • Report food safety issues promptly to Supervisor or QA Personnel.
  • Manage inventory and provide regular data on competitive regional and national market pricing.
  • Manage accounts receivables and balance daily route activities.
  • Protect company assets, including collection of equipment and customer payments.
  • Acquire new long-term customers to support route growth.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize route logistics and call frequency.
  • Support Region GM on special projects and assignments.
  • Train and assist Purveyors in inventory management, credit applications, accounts receivables, and related sales administrative functions.
  • Assist in producing training videos, documents, and valuable information for growing sales and best practices.
  • Provide competitive and market intelligence, recommending new product opportunities.
  • Answer customer questions about products, pricing, product applications, credit terms, marketing programs, and problem resolution.
  • Operate company vehicles and maintain required vehicle records.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of food service sales or equivalent business-to-business sales experience.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Previous route sales or delivery experience.
  • Clean driving record and ability to meet company driver qualifications policy.
  • Physically able to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Extensive travel (80%).
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Basic computer/data entry skills and math abilities.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
