Job Description: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. * Drafts accusations and indictments; evaluates and researches potential defenses; dismisses cases not prosecutable. * Reads cases submitted by investigator; reads police reports; determines whether further investigation is needed; approves or returns cases for more work; researches alternative crimes; reads and researches case law. * Presents cases to grand jury; questions witnesses; answers juror questions; determines appropriate sentence recommendations; calls arraignment calendars; attends pre-trial conferences with judge and defense attorneys. * Subpoenas appropriate witnesses for motions; researches and argues all pretrial and post-trial motions; files motions in appropriate time frame prior to trial. * Complies with discovery requirements by copying and mailing documents. * Works with trial team investigators to coordinate witnesses and evidence for trials; gathers and labels evidence. * Negotiates pleas to dispose of cases. * Interviews witnesses, victims, experts, and the police; questions potential jurors and selects jury; arranges interpreter services for witnesses when necessary. * Develops trial strategy for each case; organizes opening and closing arguments; presents evidence at trial; consults with supervisors about trial strategy. * Fills out jury cards; read appellate briefs and case transcripts; researches and writes responses to briefs.  * Represents state in probation revocation hearings; responds to parole notices. * Responds to telephone calls from attorneys, witnesses, and concerned citizens. * Determines appropriate bond amounts. * Attends meetings; maintains continuing education requirements. * Speaks to reporters on various cases. * Performs related work as required. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires graduation from an accredited Law School and admitted to the practice of law in the State of Texas supplemented by four (4) years of litigation experience. ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY - FELONY BELL COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE Stephanie Newell, the District Attorney Elect, is looking to fill the current open positions with felony prosecutors with all levels of experience. We are looking for prosecutors who enjoy working with a team with the freedom to make decisions in the handling of their case load. Our office provides the resources for you to succeed, as well as presenting cases that are varied and challenging. In our office, you will have the opportunity to work with a group of career prosecutors and manage your own docket with all levels of felonies. We prefer a prosecutor with a minimum of two years felony experience as a prosecutor, or equivalent. Like all offices, you need to be licensed by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
