About the position

The Division Network Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, implementation, monitoring, and support of the HCA division network and security infrastructure. This position serves as a primary technical resource for the division, responsible for setting up and repairing division and facility network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will monitor and diagnose network performance, addressing network-based incidents and requests reported to the division service desk, particularly complex incidents that require thorough research and diagnostics. The role involves maintaining the HCA network and security environments by adhering to HCA IT policies and procedures, while also recommending process changes that enhance the implementation, maintenance, and support of division and facility-based network equipment. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Division Network Engineer will assist with project planning and strategic initiatives, providing 24x7 on-call support alongside other division IT staff. This may include on-site support to technical resources at facilities. The position requires collaboration with division and corporate IT&S personnel to ensure that division priorities and standards are met, which includes customer support, corporate network engineering, corporate security, and external vendor coordination. The Network Engineer will also participate in regular division-wide meetings and workshops to facilitate knowledge transfer that impacts HCA-approved network architecture and security policies. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality regarding patient care and employee information, adhering to the Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement, and performing other duties as assigned. The Division Network Engineer is expected to mentor and train division Network Administrators and Associate Network Administrators as needed, ensuring a high level of technical support and service delivery across the division.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, implementation, monitoring, and support of hardware and software to support the division network.
  • Monitor routers, switches, and circuits for failures and recommend corrective action.
  • Create, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures for equipment installation and configuration support.
  • Maintain and support division and facility-level network security equipment, including VPN concentrators and firewalls.
  • Participate in and support division and facility-level technical implementation projects.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support based on division IT staff rotation and assist with troubleshooting and resolution of incidents.
  • Train users on proper use of division and/or facility technology.
  • Mentor and train division Network Administrators and Associate Network Administrators as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in regular division-wide meetings and workshops with facility technical staff.
  • Communicate and escalate incidents and requests beyond scope of ability to senior service resources.
  • Adhere to and support HCA IT&S standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Good working knowledge of supported networks, data architecture, applicable technologies, and vendor products.
  • Familiarity with security systems, firewall, router, switch hardware and software, and network and routing topology.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic techniques and applicable communication protocols and hardware configurations.
  • Experience with statistical and analytical tools for network monitoring.
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems is preferred.
  • 2+ years experience with data networking technologies.
  • Certification in Cisco CCNA/CCDA preferred.
