About the position

The Division Accountant at Republic Services plays a crucial role in managing financial information and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. This position involves preparing financial reports, analyzing data, and supporting the Business Unit Finance Manager in maintaining internal controls and compliance with statutory requirements. The Division Accountant will also assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial audits, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly operational performance reports.
  • Assists the Business Unit Finance Manager in ensuring proper internal controls are in place, including compliance with company policies and procedures, Sarbanes Oxley, and other statutory requirements.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and statistical data, fully analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • May assist the Business Unit Finance Manager in managing accounting personnel and providing direction to various accounting functional areas.
  • Supports the Business Unit Finance Manager during the annual budget and interim forecasting process, assisting with analytical review.
  • Supports the accounting aspects of capital expenditures, transfers, and retirements.
  • Assists with periodic financial audits, including internal audits, external audits, and peer reviews.
  • Provides support and responds to information requests from corporate and regional financial management as required.

Requirements

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative to research and follow up on non-standard situations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Effective and professional interpersonal communication skills across various levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with general ledger software and other industry-standard programs.
  • Experience with accounting software and other industry-standard programs.
  • CPA designation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Finance, Accounting, or a related field for 2 or more years.
