About the position

The Division Director for Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) serves as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing research and education activities related to the interplay of people, computers, and information. This role involves strategic planning, policy steering, and effective resource management to achieve organizational goals while fostering partnerships across various sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a principal spokesperson for information and intelligent systems within the Foundation.
  • Direct the activities of the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS).
  • Assess needs and trends in the field of information and intelligent systems.
  • Develop breakthrough opportunities and implement overall strategic planning.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to senior IIS staff, program officers, and administrative personnel.
  • Determine funding requirements and prepare budget estimates.
  • Balance program needs and allocate resources effectively.
  • Oversee the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations.
  • Represent NSF to relevant external groups and foster partnerships with other divisions, Federal agencies, and the academic community.

Requirements

  • Established record of significant achievement in research, administration, and leadership in academia, industry, or government.
  • Experience in technical, financial, and administrative management.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well with people.

Nice-to-haves
