About The Position

The Division Director of Sustainability and Disposal Operations is responsible for overseeing the Solid Waste Sustainability & Disposal Operations in Hillsborough County. This senior-level managerial role involves strategic planning, budget management, personnel oversight, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The director will manage multiple facilities, including the Southeast County Landfill and Waste-to-Energy Facility, while also analyzing data related to solid waste tonnage and coordinating services. The position requires effective communication with the public and stakeholders, especially during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Solid Waste Management, or Environmental Management.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in solid waste management with an emphasis on operations.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting and operations regulations.
  • Strong supervisory and managerial skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide divisional oversight of the Waste-to-Energy Facility, Southeast Landfill Facility, and Recycling and Special Waste Programs.
  • Determine budgetary requirements for annual operating, capital, and maintenance budgets.
  • Direct the implementation of maintenance procedures to ensure service continuity and regulatory compliance.
  • Plan and implement annual goals and strategies for the Division.
  • Oversee compliance with employee and facility safety programs.
  • Manage records for prohibited waste and ensure accurate tonnage tracking for regulatory compliance.
  • Promote waste reduction and recycling through public outreach and educational materials.
