About the position

The Head of the Division of Pathology at The Hospital for Sick Children is a leadership role responsible for overseeing paediatric pathology services, teaching, and research. This position requires visionary leadership to ensure high-quality pathology services and to contribute to the academic and clinical environment of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Division of Pathology, overseeing ten pathologists, and actively participating in surgical & subspecialty pathology and autopsy services.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and well-being in paediatric pathology practice, teaching, and research.
  • Develop and maintain an independent and/or collaborative research program, with a preference for candidates with a successful record of grant-driven research.
  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching by actively participating in the education of residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Collaborate with other divisions within DPLM, clinical programs, and services to advance SickKids's mission of healthcare, teaching, and research.
  • Participate in and advocate for the Division of Pathology during major planning processes for the hospital.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of quality management systems within the Division of Pathology.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with relevant Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario.
  • Experience in paediatric pathology practice with a track record of excellence.
  • Eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.

  • A successful record of grant-driven research is preferred.
