About the position

MasTec Utility Services delivers critical infrastructure construction and engineering services for power delivery, gas, and water customers, specializing in overhead and underground electric distribution for power delivery systems, gas distribution construction for gas systems, and turnkey solutions for a variety of water, sewer, and civil infrastructure projects. The Regional Controller is responsible for establishing, implementing, and managing compliance with accounting processes, policies, and best practices. This position supports the Operations team and works with other Accounting team members and personnel from all departments. The primary duties include reviewing and evaluating forecasts/budgets, job costs, cost controls, cost reports, and other financial operating reports while presenting findings to management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance with accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Supervise recording and reconciliation of general ledger transactions and related accounts.
  • Identify and lead process improvement efforts, including system improvements, to streamline project accounting function.
  • Review, prepare, and document analysis of project estimates to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Responsible for project cost tracking, analysis, and reporting for decision support.
  • Perceive current construction industry best practices and implement relevant changes.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly financial and job status review meetings.
  • Coordinate and lead annual budget process and monthly forecasting activities.
  • Understand contract terms and conditions, knowledgeable of contractual requirements, and recognize discrepancies.
  • Work on special projects as requested; assist with external and internal audit execution.
  • Interface with Project Managers and Operations management on all aspects of construction accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8 years of Accounting or Finance experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with team members and upper management.
  • Good presentation skills for educating internal clients on accounting principles.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Viewpoint Vista and / or Qlik Analytics software experience helpful but not required.
