About the position

The Divisional Packaging Engineering Manager (DPEM) at Thermo Fisher Scientific will lead the packaging engineering function for the global Laboratory Chemicals Division (LCD). This role is responsible for ensuring that all packaging materials and processes meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost standards. The DPEM will collaborate with multi-functional teams to analyze packaging performance, resolve issues, and develop strategies for improvement, while also supporting new product introductions and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the packaging engineering function across the global division.
  • Ensure all packaging materials and processes meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost standards.
  • Develop the capability of site teams in packaging knowledge and processes.
  • Manage the day-to-day workload of the packaging engineering team.
  • Ensure accurate packaging specifications, bills-of-materials, and packaging instructions.
  • Assist operational teams in resolving packaging-related problems.
  • Support the development of packaging design and specifications for new products.
  • Investigate customer complaints regarding package performance and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop a packaging roadmap to drive improvements in performance and customer experience.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service and Global Chemicals Chemical Account Managers on packaging inquiries.
  • Support strategic packaging investment projects and stay updated on industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Science or Engineering with experience in Packaging.
  • 5+ years of packaging-related experience.
  • 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with UN Packaging/HazMat requirements.
  • Knowledge of packaging test methods and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying technical concepts.
  • Experience working with multi-functional global teams.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term process safety improvement strategies.
  • Leadership skills to influence and motivate others.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • PC literate with strong skills in Power BI, Databases, Outlook, and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and/or reliability engineering.
  • Matrix management experience in chemical sites.
