About the position

The Genetic Counselor position at Mayo Clinic is a full-time role within the Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics Division, focusing on molecular oncology testing. The counselor will be part of a clinical lab interpretive team, responsible for evaluating tumor-based next generation sequencing test results, contributing to test development, and providing education and support to healthcare providers and students. This position is fully remote and requires collaboration with a team of genetic counselors and variant scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate tumor-based next generation sequencing test results for cancer variant interpretation and report drafting.
  • Promote consistent test reporting standards.
  • Contribute to new test development and implementation.
  • Provide client support for external healthcare providers.
  • Educate rotating student groups, including genetic counseling graduate students, medical residents, and fellows.

Requirements

  • Master of Science or Master of Arts in Genetic Counseling from an ABGC accredited program.
  • Professional knowledge of medical, clinical, and laboratory genetics.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Computer skills appropriate for laboratory and clinical case management.
  • ABGC Certification and licensure are required.
