About the position

The DMV is seeking to hire a professional individual to serve as a Program Support Technician in the Data Integrity Work Center, a high-volume DMV unit that responds to a variety of requests from internal and external customers. This role involves responding to inquiries from Customer Service Center employees as well as from the public via telephone, written correspondence, fax, and email. The technician will perform all duties and processes as required by the work unit, including responding to VRWA phone calls from treasurer offices throughout Virginia regarding personal property tax stops. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders, managing over 8.4 million registered vehicles. Additionally, DMV provides services to a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuel tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers via telephone, written correspondence, fax, and email.
  • Perform all duties and processes as required by the work unit.
  • Respond to VRWA phone calls from treasurer offices throughout Virginia regarding personal property tax stops.
  • Maintain effective and courteous working relationships with other agencies, administrations, business entities, DMV employees, and the public.
  • Interpret, explain, and apply complex materials such as the Virginia Motor Vehicle code and policies pertaining to DMV services.
  • Assist with the facilitation of operations or program changes in a smooth and timely manner.
  • Perform detailed work independently using prescribed procedures; collect, research, and analyze data, and organize materials according to established procedures.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of business English, mathematics, and office operating practices, including filing systems and office equipment.
  • Experience providing customer service in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with an understanding of the subject matter and grammatical correctness.
  • Experience maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex materials related to DMV services.
  • Keyboard and computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and mainframe databases.
  • Experience in multi-tasking and managing daily responsibilities independently.
