About the position

The DoD Personal Financial Counselor position at Fort Liberty, NC, involves providing comprehensive personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families. The role focuses on education and counseling, addressing various financial services, and ensuring that the program meets the needs of the installation. The counselor will work closely with military leadership and participate in training and quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
• Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
• Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
• Coordinate, publicize, and provide a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops.
• Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars.
• Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication effectively.
• Manage duty to warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
• Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision.
• Participate in regular in-services/training and quality improvement committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required, or an associate degree plus 4 years' experience, or a high school diploma plus 6 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English.
• If required, must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
• Must have one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
• Must have over a thousand hours of financial counseling experience.
