About the position

The Principal / Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer position at Northrop Grumman is part of the Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge), designed for transitioning service members. This role focuses on the design and fabrication of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) test sets, which are essential for checking out, integrating, and operating flight hardware during ground tests. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain civilian work experience while contributing to innovative projects in the aerospace and defense sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) test sets.
  • Conduct panel and cable design, electrical interconnects, and schematics.
  • Develop acceptance criteria and certification procedures.
  • Perform hardware checkout and troubleshooting.
  • Determine root causes and resolve problems, documenting the process.
  • Interface with subsystem test engineers, test operators, technicians, and vendors for support on test set tasks.
  • Manage the full design cycle of EGSE from conception through design to fabrication and integration/test.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of related experience, or a master's degree with 3 years of related experience for Principal level.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related experience, or a master's degree with 6 years of related experience, or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience for Sr. Principal level.
  • Proficient in hardware design including panel and/or cable design and schematic layouts.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in hardware design for Principal level; 2 years for Sr. Principal level.
  • Must be retiring or separating from the military within 1 year to be eligible.
  • Must have an Active Secret security clearance at the time of application.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in hardware design.
  • Proficient with integrated (analog, power, digital) hardware design.
  • Experience with lab test equipment such as DMMs and O-Scopes.
  • Familiarity with electrical design tools (e.g., Zuken, AutoCAD, PSpice).
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with electrical hardware.
  • Proficient in Test Automation Software (LabView, TCL, MATLAB).
