About the position

The Quality Assurance Inspector at Firefly Aerospace is responsible for inspecting and accepting in-process and completed flight, qualification, test, and support hardware and software. This role is part of the DoD SkillBridge program, providing service members with valuable civilian work experience through industry training and internships. The position requires strong attention to detail and a passion for learning in a fast-paced environment where products are built and tested rapidly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections on launch vehicle/spacecraft components and sub-assemblies (mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic), focused on launch operations.
  • Develop and execute detailed inspection programs to ensure adherence to design, specification, and testing requirements.
  • Document non-conformances in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes.
  • Collect, track, and trend production data on first-pass yield and non-conformance issues, performing basic statistical analysis on variable data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve non-conformance or quality issues, including developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Quarantine and process non-conforming product.
  • Maintain tool control and calibration processes within assigned work center.
  • Participate in technical operations and offer guidance as a technical resource.
  • Initiate and execute plans to improve product quality and inspection efficiency.
  • Apply 5S workplace organization and follow Lean initiatives.
  • Support manufacturing compliance to customer and internal specifications.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of direct experience with demonstrated mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Experience with standards and/or equivalent quality, military, or government standards in the Aerospace industry.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and adhere to drawings, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of experience in engines, turbomachinery, or complex component assembly.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, or testing pneumatic and/or cryogenic valves, turbomachinery, fluid systems, actuators, or components.
  • Experience with avionics hardware.
  • Civilian or military aircraft engine experience.
