About the position

The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking a skilled engineer to participate in the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of its data backup network infrastructure. This role involves managing server virtualization assets and providing end-to-end technical solutions while ensuring the security and efficiency of backup operations. The engineer will work closely with various teams to support cloud services and handle escalated incidents, contributing to the overall improvement of IT infrastructure and government services in Maryland.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain DoIT's data backup network infrastructure including virtual appliances, servers, and backup software.
• Set up backup policies, manage backup rotation, and ensure disaster recovery processes are in place.
• Coordinate the development and maintenance of the enterprise SFTP service platform MoveIT.
• Support cloud services by addressing escalated incidents and production support issues.
• Lead the hands-on implementation of virtual and physical appliances in the datacenter.
• Configure backups, disaster recovery, Active Directory, and security hardening for a large environment of 1500+ servers.

Requirements

• Seven years of experience designing and implementing complex data communications or telecommunications networks.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields may substitute for up to four years of experience.
• Additional graduate education may substitute for required experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year.

Nice-to-haves

• Two years of experience administering, troubleshooting, and upgrading backup infrastructure.
• Two years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting VMWare environment.
