About the position

The Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Alexandria VA Medical Center is a full-time leadership role focused on providing exceptional care to Veterans. This position combines administrative, clinical, and educational responsibilities, with a significant emphasis on managing rehabilitation services and pain care. The role requires a compassionate and highly motivated individual dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the PM&R service line, ensuring high-quality care for Veterans with physical disabilities.
  • Manage both medical and procedural pain care, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with Suboxone.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice to facility leadership regarding rehabilitation medicine.
  • Examine and assess patients, developing and managing comprehensive rehabilitation programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for consultation on medical management of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), spinal cord injuries, and other neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Attend PM&R service and medical staff meetings, contributing to pain management discussions.
  • Supervise and mentor staff within the PM&R service.

Requirements

  • Board Certified MD/DO in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience as a physiatrist.
  • DEA X Waiver certification for prescribing Suboxone.
  • Full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. State.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, with non-citizen candidates considered if no U.S. Citizen is found.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing rehabilitation programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Familiarity with federal healthcare systems and policies.
