About the position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Plumber at the Dixon Correctional Center within the maintenance department. This role is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of plumbing systems within the facility. The ideal candidate will be a team player, task-oriented, and possess a keen attention to detail. The position involves performing journey-level plumbing work, which includes installing, maintaining, and repairing sanitary fixtures, devices, and assemblies, as well as fluid transmission systems, sewage systems, and piping or tubing systems in compliance with the applicable laws, rules, and codes of the State of Illinois. A licensed plumber with a strong background in service and repair environments is highly desirable. Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains pipe and other tubing throughout the institution.
  • Melts and caulks lead joints.
  • Instructs individuals in custody in plumbing tasks.
  • Remains up to date and in compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives, Institutional Directives, Institutional policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires possession of a valid plumber's license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
  • Requires the possession of a valid certificate as a Cross-Connection Control Device Inspector (CCCDI) or the acquisition of the certificate within the probationary period of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefers two (2) years of experience maintaining/repairing commercial ice machines.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience maintaining sewage lift station pumps, piping, and fittings.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience repairing sewage lift station pumps, piping, and fittings.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience utilizing waste flow systems, including drains, vents, pressure force mains, sewage pumps, manholes and collection systems.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience repairing the waste flow system, including drains, vents, pressure force mains, sewage pumps, manholes and collection system.
