About the position

The Electrician position at the East Moline Correctional Center is a vital role that involves performing routine maintenance inspections and ensuring the proper functioning of electrical systems within the facility. The selected candidate will be responsible for adhering to the facility's work order system and master craft/routine/cycle lists, which guide the maintenance and repair tasks. This position also includes instructing, leading, and directing individuals in custody who are engaged in entry-level electrical work, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks effectively. The Electrician will be involved in the installation of various electrical systems and will conduct operations and maintenance of the Electrician's Cage located in the Maintenance building. The role requires a highly motivated and organized individual who can manage multiple tasks and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance inspections at the facility in accordance with facility work order system and master craft/routine/cycle lists.
  • Instruct, lead, and direct individuals in custody workers in the methods and techniques of entry level electrical work.
  • Perform installation of various electrical systems.
  • Conduct operation and maintenance of the Electrician's Cage in the Maintenance building.
  • Perform other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent education.
  • Successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years of full-time journey level electrician experience, or eight (8) years of full-time journey level electrician experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least three (3) years of experience in using the tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the electrician trade.
  • At least two (2) years of experience instructing beginners in the trade.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in supervising unskilled workers.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in reading, interpreting, and working from plans, blueprints, simple drawings, and sketches.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in installing, designing, repairing, cabling, wiring, or electronics.
