About the position

Trident Seafoods is seeking a Dock Operations Coordinator I to join our team at the Tacoma Shipyard. This entry-level position is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our dock facilities. The Dock Operations Coordinator I will work under the direct supervision of the Dock Operations Supervisor and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential for the loading, unloading, and transportation of materials to and from vessels. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the functionality of the dock, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently. In this role, you will be tasked with moving products and materials to and from various locations, including storage areas, production areas, and delivery vehicles. You will be responsible for securely connecting and disconnecting vessels to the dock, as well as managing shore power connections. Additionally, you will deploy and maintain oil booms around vessels and docks, ensuring compliance with environmental safety standards. The position requires you to inspect and sort cargo, load and unload waste, and maintain accurate records of materials handled. The Dock Operations Coordinator I will also be expected to acquire knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies through required training programs. You will notify management of any safety incidents or risks, ensuring that all operations adhere to established safety protocols. This position is nonexempt and offers an hourly wage ranging from $21.00 to $23.00, along with a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees.

Responsibilities

  • Moor vessels to the dock and load, unload, and transport materials on and off vessels.
  • Move product and other materials to and from storage and production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers.
  • Securely connect and disconnect incoming/departing vessels to docks.
  • Connect and disconnect shore power as needed.
  • Connect, adjust, and remove vessel gangways as required.
  • Deploy, retract, inspect, and maintain oil boom around vessels and docks as needed.
  • Open containers and inspect and sort cargo before loading and unloading.
  • Load and unload waste onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with material handling equipment.
  • Pack materials onto flatbeds or into containers and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Perform skiff inspections and report maintenance issues to the supervisor.
  • Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheets.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform complex math problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to pass forklift certification or ability to become certified within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass basic boating safety course within 60 days of employment.
