Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dedicated Dock Supervisor to join our OD Family Culture. This role is pivotal in managing a shift or section within a service center, ensuring that all operational standards are met in terms of safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service, and delivery. The Dock Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the loading and unloading processes, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position requires constant communication with associates, customers, and team members, utilizing OD's proprietary technology systems to monitor shipment locations and facilitate smooth operations. The Dock Supervisor will also be tasked with completing various company and government forms related to freight movement, such as shipping orders and freight bills. Daily responsibilities include monitoring employee safety, evaluating loading and unloading processes, and providing training on safe lifting techniques. The supervisor will manage dock employees, oversee work schedules, and collaborate closely with the Operations Manager and Service Center Manager to align with business objectives. Additionally, the role involves providing constructive feedback to employees regarding productivity metrics and handling any necessary disciplinary actions. Compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT standards, is a critical aspect of this position. The Dock Supervisor will conduct daily inspections to ensure that all trailers are loaded correctly and that proper unloading techniques are followed. This role also requires the operation of various internal freight monitoring systems and the ability to make quick, informed decisions based on volume levels. The Dock Supervisor will lead daily shift meetings and ensure that all tools and equipment are in safe working condition, directing any necessary corrections to unsafe conditions.
