About the position

As a Dock Supervisor at Estes Express Lines, you will report directly to the Operations Manager, Assistant Terminal Manager, or Terminal Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to lead, guide, and direct dock employees, ensuring that targets are set and performance is monitored. You will be accountable for managing an efficient, clean, and safe Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) operation, which includes dock planning and scheduling. It is essential to enforce compliance with all company policies, safety rules, and government regulations. You will also be involved in the hiring and termination processes, making recommendations as necessary. In this role, you will administer and carry out assigned portions of the Terminal Business plan as set forth by the Terminal Manager. Meeting all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) assigned to you will be a critical aspect of your job. You will utilize all company enhancement tools and processes daily, reviewing and revising schedules to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. Additionally, you will be responsible for the assignment and movement of equipment, such as trailers and tractors, in collaboration with other supervisors and management. Effective communication with customers via phone, fax, or email is crucial, as is overseeing all paperwork associated with the dock to ensure it is handled timely and correctly by employees. Regular attendance is required, and while this job description outlines key responsibilities, it is not exhaustive. You may be expected to perform other duties as assigned, depending on operational and safety needs. Employees are expected to be adaptable and capable of performing all tasks as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide, and direct dock employees, setting targets and monitoring performance.
  • Manage an efficient, clean, and safe LTL operation, including dock planning and scheduling.
  • Enforce compliance with company policies, safety rules, and government regulations.
  • Participate in the hiring and termination processes, making recommendations as needed.
  • Administer assigned portions of the Terminal Business plan as set by the Terminal Manager.
  • Meet all assigned KPIs and utilize company enhancement tools and processes daily.
  • Review and revise schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Oversee equipment assignment and movement in collaboration with other supervisors and management.
  • Ensure proper communication with customers via phone, fax, or email.
  • Oversee all paperwork associated with the dock to ensure timely and correct handling by employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry, including basic paperwork flow preferred.
  • Prior management, dispatch, and dock experience required, preferably in the LTL trucking industry.
  • Knowledge of the local metropolitan area is essential.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor, and terminate employees.
  • Excellent team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Good computer skills, including AS/400 and MS Office.
  • Strong work ethic and good problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work an average of 50 hours per week, including nights and weekends, in any weather condition.
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs. or more as required by job functions.
  • Ability to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to interact well with others and work independently or in a team setting.
  • Capability to work under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
