About the position

Site Design Group, Ltd. is seeking a Document & Field Technician to join our team in Chicago, IL. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful production and organization of project documents, particularly during the construction document and construction administration phases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing project designs based on the scope of work, client communications, and guidance from senior management, while ensuring compliance with relevant codes. The Document & Field Technician will engage in various tasks including the development of construction details, researching materials for project specifications, and creating design presentations or construction document layouts. The role also involves assisting in managing staff schedules to ensure timely project completion and preparing construction cost estimates. The technician will interface with clients and consultants, addressing their inquiries and assisting in the administration of construction observation. This includes preparing addenda, reviewing submittals and pay requests, and documenting site visits through field observation reports. In addition to project documentation, the technician will analyze data related to construction conditions, such as site location and drainage, to support environmental reports and landscaping plans. The role requires inspecting landscape work to ensure compliance with specifications and evaluating the quality of materials and workmanship. The technician will also manage and organize project documents and coordinate firm-wide material and product samples. Telecommuting is permitted, providing flexibility in work arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project designs based on scope of work, client communications, and management direction.
  • Develop construction details and layouts for construction documents.
  • Research materials for project specifications and construction document layouts.
  • Assist in managing schedules of staff to ensure timely project completion.
  • Assist in preparing construction cost estimates and financial management of projects.
  • Interface with clients and consultants, answering questions and providing support.
  • Administer construction observation, including preparing addenda and reviewing submittals.
  • Monitor and document construction project progress through site visits and field reports.
  • Assist in inspecting landscape work for compliance with specifications and quality evaluation.
  • Manage and organize project documents and coordinate material samples.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, City Design, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in site visits, site analysis, measuring, and field reports.
  • 1 year of experience in construction document layouts and integration of construction management processes.
  • 1 year of experience in monitoring and documenting construction project progress.
  • 1 year of experience in preparing construction cost estimates.
