About the position

The Domesticated Elk Program Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the domesticated elk farming and hunting program at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. This role involves managing herd inventories, ensuring compliance with regulations, and conducting inspections and training for producers. The position requires a balance of fieldwork and office duties, focusing on data management and compliance with CWD certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform farm and facility inspections.
  • Verify elk inventories at all farms.
  • Assure that all inventories are tracked accurately in the computer system.
  • Review all applications for import and review all testing requirements for completeness.
  • Complete all tasks required for CWD certification compliance.
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned in animal health.
  • Manage a statewide or agency-wide program.
  • Determine program goals and objectives and/or chair committees established to support the program.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • A penchant for detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of elk and their management, including diseases.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in an autonomous position.

  • Prior experience working in the related industry.
