About the position

The Donor Database Manager plays a crucial role in the Philanthropy Team at the Berkeley Food & Housing Project, serving as an advisor to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). This position is responsible for managing the donor and volunteer database, ensuring data integrity, and supporting the cultivation and stewardship of donors. The role involves data entry, monitoring data health, creating reports, and optimizing data-related processes to enhance fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all front- and back-end elements of the donor and volunteer database (Salesforce NPSP).
  • Accurately process and record donations and provide timely acknowledgment of gifts.
  • Perform regular data entry and clean up tasks to ensure accurate records of donor and volunteer information.
  • Support prospect research and wealth screening efforts.
  • Help maintain foundation and corporate records such as grant deadlines and deliverables.
  • Optimize the database and suggest process improvements.
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot workflow automations.
  • Conduct regular data hygiene and quality checks to ensure data integrity.
  • Generate regular reports and data analyses of fundraising and volunteer activities.
  • Develop dashboards to support specific fundraising goals.
  • Coordinate and execute timely and personalized donor acknowledgments.
  • Respond to general donor inquiries and support data-driven campaigns.
  • Actively develop improved database processes and workflow automations.
  • Manage vendor contracts and relationships for Salesforce and its integrated applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of database management experience, with a minimum of 2 years using Salesforce, preferably Salesforce NPSP.
  • Commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and a trauma-informed approach to care.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar data visualization tools.
  • Highly analytical and organized with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy and deadlines.
  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with fundraising and donor relations principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
