About the position

The Donor Services Specialist I plays a crucial role in facilitating the tissue and eye donation process by interacting with hospital personnel, coroner personnel, and recovery staff. This position is essential in ensuring that organ, eye, and tissue donations are handled according to regulatory standards, ultimately contributing to the mission of saving and healing lives through donation and transplantation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate all referrals for potential organ, tissue, and eye donation as required by regulatory standards.
  • Collect and interpret patient medical and social history information provided by hospital/nursing home staff, coroners, or investigators.
  • Triaging organ, tissue, and eye donor referral calls, contacting the appropriate Lifebanc staff member when needed.
  • Understand progress notes, doctor's orders, lab results, and medication lists.
  • Communicate with the hospital, Coroner's/Medical Examiner's, and Funeral Homes as needed.
  • Provide the Family Support Coordinator with appropriate referrals for family contact.
  • Deliver a thorough and accurate report to the Family Support Coordinator prior to family approach.
  • Ensure departmental quality guidelines are maintained by timely clearance of donor charts to maximize opportunities for transplantation.
  • Respond to audit findings and processor requests in a timely manner.
  • Accurate, timely completion of charting error tasks assigned in the database and respond to all other inquiries from the Quality Department required for donor chart clearance.
  • Participate as an active member of the Donor Referral Services department and organization to support Lifebanc's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in a health field or related area.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as support staff in the clinical health care field such as LPN, Health Unit Coordinator, STNA, MA, Clinical Technician, or related experience in tissue banking.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel, and donor families.
  • Ability to conduct multiple tasks at one time.

Nice-to-haves
