About the position

The DOT Specialist / DOT Compliance Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position involves developing, implementing, and enforcing safety and compliance programs, conducting audits and inspections, and ensuring efficient transportation operations while adhering to federal, state, and local laws. The role requires a proactive approach to risk management and safety to safeguard employees and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring company operations for compliance with DOT regulations, including those set forth by the FMCSA, PHMSA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of policies and procedures to ensure DOT compliance across all aspects of the organization's transportation operations.
  • Conduct regular assessments of driver records, vehicle maintenance logs, and hours-of-service documentation to identify any areas of non-compliance.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure that all transportation-related activities meet or exceed DOT standards.
  • Support the investigation of non-compliance issues by gathering evidence and assisting in the formulation of corrective action plans.
  • Prepare detailed reports of audit findings, making recommendations for process improvements.
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of training programs for drivers and other personnel on DOT regulations, company policies, and safety practices.
  • Maintain detailed records regarding accidents, incidents, and injuries, ensuring all documentation is properly submitted and reported to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Work with safety managers and senior staff to implement and maintain transportation safety programs that align with DOT regulations and company goals.
  • Ensure that all necessary DOT documentation is accurately maintained and readily available for inspections.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in DOT compliance and safety management.
  • Experience in conducting audits and investigations related to DOT compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and meet all physical requirements of the position.
  • Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations.
