The Full Stack Developer DPI x Cognizant Software Development Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative initiative between the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI), Cognizant, and City Colleges, funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the US Department of Labor. This program is designed for individuals who are eager to break into the technology field through a structured apprenticeship model. Candidates will first complete a 16-week pre-apprenticeship program at City Colleges, which is a prerequisite for the full-time apprenticeship opportunity with Cognizant. Upon successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship, candidates will have the chance to interview for a one-year, full-time, paid apprenticeship as a software developer. This apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in software development while earning a competitive salary. The program is particularly aimed at those who have at least an associate degree with five years of work experience or a bachelor’s degree with two years of work experience. Additionally, candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and reside in the Chicagoland area. The pre-apprenticeship program is unpaid and is set to begin on August 29, 2022, and will run until December 17, 2022. Classes will be held online on Wednesday evenings, in-person on Thursday evenings, and in-person on Saturday mornings. The application process is competitive, and candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as the application portal may close early if sufficient qualified applications are received. This apprenticeship program not only provides a pathway into a fulfilling career in technology but also emphasizes the importance of commitment, goal achievement, and the potential to impact the tech field through diverse backgrounds and experiences.
