About The Position

The License Specialist II position at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves performing licensing and permitting work in a Regional Operations Field office. Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience.
  • Valid driver license required; Texas license must be obtained within specified time if moving from out of state.
  • Certification as a Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) required within the first six months of employment.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, and policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Cash handling experience preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual skills for interpreting for foreign language speaking applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review license and permit applications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes.
  • Communicate with external and internal customers regarding licensing procedures.
  • Administer written and visual tests to applicants.
  • Prepare application forms and collect fees for licenses and permits.
  • Answer general inquiries about driver license laws and procedures.
  • Conduct physical checks of applicants' driving capabilities and eyesight.
  • Inspect motor vehicles for safety prior to road tests.
  • Issue licenses and permits and ensure accountability for collected fees.
  • Input applications and payments into appropriate computer systems.
  • Advise applicants on suspensions, cancellations, and revocations.
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance related to licensing and permit requirements.
