About The Position

The Network Support Specialist III (In-Car) at the Texas Department of Public Safety is responsible for performing complex professional and technical work related to the analysis and improvement of various departmental components, particularly in the context of Wide Area Networks (WANs), Local Area Networks (LANs), and in-car systems. This role involves supporting disaster recovery, mobile command operations, and server maintenance, while providing assistance with multiple operating systems and wireless technology. The specialist may also train other IT staff and work under general supervision with a degree of independence.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Data Processing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in supporting hardware and software configurations in a networked environment, preferably with wireless networking management technology.
  • Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
  • TLETS certification with TCIC/TLETS mobile, required every two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of hardware and software designed for WAN connectivity.
  • Experience with disaster recovery processes and business practices involving large volumes of data.
  • Familiarity with cloud technology and secure virtual environments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and determine feasibility of applying complex network systems; document and recommend systems for WAN, MAN, LAN configurations.
  • Provide maintenance support to Vehicle Wireless Mobile Network technology and maintain in-car software applications.
  • Train and assist IT staff in the use of complex applications and procedures.
  • Receive, install, identify, test, and document hardware, network, and software products in field offices.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with the maintenance of virtual hardware, SQL servers, monitors, and other peripherals.
  • Develop training modules and present training sessions to users.
  • Maintain current knowledge of standards and procedures for PC utilization.
  • Audit systems for unlicensed software.
  • Conduct cost analysis and prepare budget recommendations for hardware and software operations.
  • Respond to District Disaster Centers and disaster events as needed.
