About The Position

The Public Safety Paramedic (Special Operations) role at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves providing advanced medical care and consultative services in high-risk environments. This position supports law enforcement and public safety operations by planning and implementing statewide systems for emergency response and mitigation. The role requires building relationships with various agencies and working independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a vocational program in Paramedics.
  • Completion of a US military or government special operations medical training pipeline.
  • Minimum of four years of experience providing paramedic-level medical care in various settings.
  • Preference for candidates with six months of deployed combat medical experience or two years of high-volume 911 experience.
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted Class C Drivers License from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Current National Registry Paramedic certification or a US State or Territory Paramedic license.
  • Knowledge of tactical/special operations equipment and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in executive/dignitary protection.
  • Advanced knowledge of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the DPS Joint Medical Operations (JMO) program in special operations and tactical medicine.
  • Provide direct advanced medical care in remote and high-risk environments.
  • Oversee and mentor other DPS JMO personnel, ensuring quality assurance and continuing education.
  • Coordinate DPS JMO operations within the assigned region and provide guidance to regional command staff.
  • Conduct liaison work, technical assistance, and training in support of DPS JMO initiatives.
  • Produce medical threat assessments and operational plans for various scenarios.
  • Brief senior leadership on JMO program issues and performance metrics.
  • Maintain requisite clinical credentialing from DPS JMO and the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Attend work regularly and adhere to agency attendance policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
