About the position

The HR Generalist Intermediate at DPSS plays a vital role in managing and enhancing the human resources functions across various departments within the Division of Public Safety and Security. This position is designed for a proactive individual who possesses a strong background in HR practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in labor relations, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance. Reporting to the HR and Special Project Manager, the HR Generalist will assist in developing both short and long-term HR strategies that align with the mission, vision, and values of DPSS. In this role, the HR Generalist will serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and resolving issues to foster a positive and inclusive work environment. The position involves conducting investigations and making recommendations on confidential employee relations matters, as well as assisting with negotiations and grievance processes related to union interactions. Additionally, the HR Generalist will support the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans, while also coordinating training and development programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge. Compliance is a critical aspect of this role, as the HR Generalist will ensure adherence to university policies, federal and state employment laws, and industry regulations. This includes maintaining accurate employee records and assisting in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures. The HR Generalist will also participate in various HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving departmental processes and employee engagement, conducting research on HR best practices, and collaborating with other university departments on HR-related matters. Furthermore, the role involves supporting DEI strategic plans and processes, as well as assisting in recruitment and onboarding efforts to attract and retain top talent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving departmental processes and employee engagement.
  • Conduct research and provide recommendations on HR best practices and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with other university departments on HR-related matters.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years of human resources management experience, including recruiting, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Two years of human resources management experience in labor relations.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with members of senior management.
  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Customer focus, teamwork, flexibility, and creativity while working in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws.
