About the position

The Drafter (3D CAD) position is focused on creating design documents that are essential for the fabrication of Architectural Fabrication products. The role involves working closely with designers to assist in project design work, ensuring that all drawings are detailed, complete, and accurate. The primary tool for this position is Solidworks, which will be used to generate fabrication drawings of various products. As a Drafter, you will be responsible for answering queries from the fabrication department regarding the drawings you create, ensuring that all specifications are clear and understood. As you gain experience with the products and the capabilities of the fabrication department, you will have the opportunity to share any design concerns with the designers, contributing to the overall improvement of the design process. Additionally, you will assist designers by creating ancillary design documents that support various projects. This role may also involve performing other related duties as assigned or requested, making it a dynamic position that requires adaptability and a willingness to learn. The work environment is expected to be repetitive, requiring a high level of focus and productivity. You will need to learn and adhere to the company’s design processes and may be required to visit the fabrication shop as needed, ensuring that you wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) during these visits. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential for success in this role, as you will be collaborating with various teams within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed, complete, and accurate fabrication drawings using Solidworks.
  • Answer questions from the fabrication department regarding the drawings.
  • Share design concerns with designers after gaining experience with products and fabrication capabilities.
  • Assist designers by creating ancillary design documents for projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Two years of 3D CAD experience, preferably with Solidworks, involving the creation of fabrication drawings.
  • One year (two semesters) of 3D CAD education in High School, Technical college, or an Associates degree program.
  • A combination of 3D CAD education and experience not meeting the minimum requirements may also be considered.
  • Knowledge of basic drafting principles.
  • Ability to focus for extended periods on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to be productive and efficient, providing high quality work in a repetitive environment.
  • Ability to learn and follow company design processes.
  • Ability to visit the fabrication shop as needed while wearing proper PPE.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to become a designer in the future based on business and department needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification.
  • Working knowledge of PDM (Product Data Management) software.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
