About the position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Mechanical/Electrical Drafter to join our diverse team, dedicated to creating unique solutions for complex problems. Our offices span across the United States, engaging in various sectors including defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields. The successful candidate will be part of our Rapid Integration and Prototyping (RIP) Department, based in Huntsville, Alabama. This role supports numerous systems and projects, ranging from land-based array platforms to aerial sensor solutions. As a Mechanical/Electrical Drafter, you will be responsible for capturing mechanical designs for both 2D drawings and 3D models. Your specific duties will include parts dimensioning and tolerances, materials and finish specification of components, wiring schematic layouts, and the creation of top-level systems technical data packages. You will document mechanical and electrical designs, engage in 3D design and printing of parts, select hardware and wiring, and perform small-level assembly of parts and components. This position requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in mechanical drafting, with experience in using SolidWorks for mechanical design. You will be expected to work collaboratively with other team members to ensure that all designs meet the required specifications and standards. Your organizational skills will be crucial in documenting designs and assisting with Technical Data Packages (TDP), including creating Level 3 TDPs to MIL-STD-31000 standards. Candidates must be residents of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate, and must be U.S. citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a Final Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • An associate degree in Mechanical Drafting or equivalent field is required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience using SolidWorks.
  • In lieu of an Associate's degree, 5+ years of experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design is acceptable.
  • Experience with drafting of mechanical aspects is desired.
  • Knowledge of ASME drawing standards is preferred.
  • 3D printing experience including part design and various printing methods is a plus.
  • Familiarity with compatible materials, fasteners, coatings, processes, and assembly methods is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills to document designs and assist with Technical Data Packages (TDP).
  • Ability to create Level 3 TDPs to MIL-STD-31000 standards.
