About the position

The Drafter/CAD Operator II position at GDIT involves creating, updating, and maintaining engineering drawings using Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software. This role supports the Information Management Communication Services Program at Fort Novosel, Alabama, contributing to the Department of Defense's mission by ensuring accurate and compliant designs for various engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, and maintain drawings using CAD software for engineering support.
• Transform initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD.
• Review engineering drawings and designs for adherence to specifications and standards.
• Collaborate with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.
• Maintain a web-based information database of maps, cable/fiber configurations, and drawings.
• Update all OSP, ISP, and remote communications facilities drawings in the CAD system.
• Complete redline drawings with required changes and maintain all site drawings in final CAD format.
• Translate drawings to other formats and maintain drawing files in a printable format.
• Assist customers with software issues and instructions for data access.
• Support the operation and maintenance of electronic files for hard-copy drawings and digital libraries.

Requirements

• Secret clearance
• Associate's degree in Computer-Aided Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 4 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Proven work experience as a CAD operator.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and other CAD software.
• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in designs.
• Solid understanding of drafting techniques and engineering terminology.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Good math skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
