About the position

The Drafter / CAD Operator III position at Scientific Research Corporation involves designing and executing layouts of complex products and equipment, primarily in electrical or mechanical domains. The role requires creativity and advanced drafting techniques to solve engineering problems while supporting project objectives through 3D modeling and additive manufacturing. The position is contingent upon funding and requires a current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and executes layouts of complex products and equipment of an electrical or mechanical nature.
  • Performs original design work after receiving the design goal or problem, general method or processing, and engineering advice.
  • Utilizes advanced drafting techniques and thorough knowledge of practical fabrication techniques.
  • Solves routine engineering problems including simple stress analysis, heat transfer, vibrations, and strength/weight efficiency.
  • Performs 3D modeling and additive manufacturing in support of project objectives.
  • Develops and maintains system models utilizing CAD software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Generates a full design description for selected solutions, including specifications for development or acquisition.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in any Graphic Arts or English discipline.
  • Two or more years of experience in drafting, modeling, and related detailed drawing.
  • Experience performing 3D modeling and additive manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD equipment such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of applicable MIL-SPEC/STD standards.
  • Possess a current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of experience supporting DoD or Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Programs.
  • Understanding of routine engineering problems including stress analysis and heat transfer.
  • Experience generating full design descriptions for selected solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of NSWC operations.
