About the position

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is currently seeking a Drafter, Mechanical for a direct hire position located in Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC engineering office. This is an in-office position, and it is important to note that this position is not remote. The individual will apply manual and computerized drafting methods with a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of the occupation to obtain the desired product. Assignments will be completed utilizing information provided by engineers or design staff under the direction of a supervisor. The Drafter will be relied upon to apply a working knowledge of mechanical and/or civil/structural design to prepare mechanical isometrics, plans, elevations, sections, piping plans, details, and pipe hanger supports utilizing engineer sketches and vendor information. Other responsibilities may include preparation of bills of material, resolution of client comments, and as-built drawing preparation. The position requires a high school diploma with coursework in drafting techniques and/or a Drafting Certificate. Education or experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with basic drafting techniques is required. The candidate must be able to accurately draw complex mechanical systems from sketches or specifications using appropriate terms, procedures, and drafting standards. The ability to utilize various drafting and CADD techniques for project requirements is essential, as is the capability to produce complex drawings in a 2-D and 3-D environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Effective time management skills are required as the position may involve working on several projects concurrently. The successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work will be required at times, and travel to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work is expected. The ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is also required.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma with coursework in drafting techniques and/or a Drafting Certificate is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with Laser Scanning tools, total stations, software, and registration is a plus.
