About the position

Join our operations team at UFP Grandview LLC, where you will play a crucial role in shaping our business strategy and ensuring the effectiveness of our operations. As a Drafter/CNC Programmer, you will be responsible for managing and executing shop drawings, production drawings, and CNC programming. This includes selecting tooling and determining the programming component geometry of parts. You will also set up and operate the CNC machine, making complex cuts using Microvellum to maximize cuts and yields. This position requires a blend of technical skills, creativity, and the ability to work under the supervision of a manager while planning and accomplishing goals. In this role, you will read and analyze job orders, prints, drawings, and customer specifications. You will collaborate with the Project Management and Design Team to ensure that customer requirements are met. Programming the CNC Router will be a key responsibility, along with working closely with plant and operations employees to determine the best custom fabrication methods. You will prepare programs for production operations, including material and parts lists, and determine the proper type of tool cutting bit to be used in various machining cycles. Additionally, you will utilize tools such as touch probes, calibration programs, and height gauges to set machine tools for tool changes and cutting processes. Understanding the Dowel and Case Clamp Fabrication method is essential, as is managing programming files and ensuring that processed materials meet job specifications. You will also have the opportunity to direct and train other employees working on the machine, identify and resolve various problems, and lead continuous improvement and safety initiatives within the team. This position requires a proactive approach to communication and record-keeping, as well as a commitment to adhering to UFP policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and analyzes job orders, prints, drawings and customer specifications.
  • Works with Project Management and Design Team to ensure that customer requirements are met.
  • Programs the CNC Router.
  • Works with plant and operations employees on best custom fabrication methods.
  • Prepares programs for production operations including material lists, parts list and production.
  • Determines the proper type of tool cutting bit to be used in the routing/boring/pocketing cycles.
  • Utilizes tools such as touch probes, calibration programs, and height gauges to set machine tools for tool changes and cutting processes.
  • Understands the Dowel and Case Clamp Fabrication method.
  • Stores programming files and is responsible for file management.
  • Checks processed material to ensure operation is producing to required job specifications.
  • Directs and trains other employees working on the machine, as needed.
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves various problems and opportunities.
  • Manages activities and performs duties consistent with all UFP policies, procedures, and applicable law.
  • Communicates to employees and other management members as required.
  • Leads employees in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school education.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience drawing and engineering millwork and casework shop drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Microvellum engineering software is a plus but not required.
  • Understanding and interpretation of the various Machine Codes for Biesse Rover CNC Machines.
  • Fundamental working knowledge of AutoCAD software is required.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and other business software.
  • Knowledge of AWI standards, cabinets, casework, custom woodwork and millwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microvellum engineering software.
  • Familiarity with Biesse Rover CNC Machines.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD software.
