About the position

The Design Technician position at Ops Plus Inc involves working on-site in the Electric or Gas Utility Industry, specifically in Louisville, KY. The role requires performing various design-related tasks for utility construction, with a focus on using AutoCAD and MicroStation. The successful candidate will undergo extensive training under a senior technician and will eventually work with minimal supervision, although support will always be available.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with layout and design engineering work for utility construction
• Performing field work such as measuring accurately with tape or wheel
• Interpreting engineering drawings
• Taking basic field notes
• Occasionally driving to locate stakes
• Minor right-of-way clearing
• Preparing cost estimates using client-specific software
• Other similar tasks as required

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of experience in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Ability to learn to make and read drawings and sketches
• Proficient technical knowledge and skills, including mathematics
• Two or more years of utility design experience desired
• Competent in computer/windows-based applications
• Ability and willingness to learn new software programs
• Valid driver's license and clean driving history required
• Bachelor's degree desired, but an Associate's degree with related experience will also be considered
